Where to find eSIM in settings
Settings → Cellular (Mobile Data) → Add eSIM
Exceptions by region
Mainland China. The iPhone 16e sold in mainland China has no eSIM.
USA. US models have no SIM tray and work with eSIM only.
USA, Canada, Japan, Mexico and the Gulf states. From this generation the eSIM-only version (no SIM tray) is sold not only in the USA but also in Canada, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
Hong Kong and Macau. The dual-SIM iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max sold in Hong Kong and Macau have two nano-SIM slots and no eSIM; the 12 mini and 12 Pro there have eSIM.
How to install a travel eSIM on iPhone

Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR code.
Keep your home line for calls and SMS.
Set the travel line as mobile data and enable data roaming for it.
